The Volkssturmkarabiner 98, or VK-98, was one of the last German rifle designs of the war. Designed and made by Mauser, this rifle was designed as a cheap and fast produced bolt action rifle. It was a last-ditch effort to arm the German troops. Based on previous Mauser designs, its stock was mostly made of plywood (in that time of the war, most rifles - including the Kar 98k - were produced with plywood, because plywood was easier to obtain than solid wood) and got a shorter wooden body. The Mauser bolt system and the barrel were still the same as the Kar 98k. The rifle was originally designed without a magazine, so the rifle would be reloaded after one shot. However, some rifles got the G43 magazine with 10 rounds. This rifle was designed for the Volkssturm, however even the Heer used the same rifles because of shortage. In FHSW the VK-98, with the G43 magazine, is mostly used by the Volkssturm. However it is possible that it can also be used by the Heer (on Charlie Sector Omaha Beach, the Heer used the Volkssturmgewehr 1-5). You can find the weapons in maps such as Berlin, Berlin Streets, Berlin Outskirts and Remagen where the Volkssturm are defending the Reich against American and Soviet troops.
