The design, based on the Brummbär, of the 15 cm Sturmmörser Sturmpanther Ausf.G or ingame Sturmpanther was proposed in October 1944 by Krupp. It was a Panther Ausf G chassis with a Panther Ausf A/G turret, armed with a 150mm StuH 43/1 gun. The initial proposal was made by Krupp, while Alkett was working on a similar proposal using the Sturmgeschütz III chassis. Krupp proposed using the commander's cupola from a Tiger and the gunsight of the Maus on the Sturmmörser Panther, creating a Panther equivalent to the Brummbär, but with a fully traversing turret. This adaptation was an innovation, as the previous assault tanks like the Brummbär and Sturmtiger had a fixed casemate.

Alkett had a similar project, but using the chassis of the Stug III (likely derived from the STUIG 33b, however it is unlikely the already overburdened chassis could have supported the extra weight of turret gear). As the evolution of the conflict was unfavorable to the Reich, on July 21, 1944 Prof. Dr. Ing. Müller Krupp was informed by the Oberst Dipl.-Ing Crohn's Hauptgruppenleiter Heerswaffenamt / 6 WaPrüf that all development projects for self-propelled armored heavy weapons or super heavy tanks were to be abandoned.

However, a wooden model of sturmpanther 150mm was to be presented to the commander of armored troops, Generaloberst Guderian. No further action would be given to the project and the idea of the sturmpanther had a life span of just a month.
