It is built from metal, weighs 4 kg and shoots 500 9mm rounds/min. This is the famous and legendary MP40 often called the Schmeisser. This machinepistol is designed on the predecessor of the MP36 and the MP38. It is an open-bolt and blowback-operated automatic machinepistol. In contrast to its predecessor, which was made of machined steel, the MP40 was made from stamped steel. This made it easy to build this machinepistol. Approximately 1 million machinepistols were produced between 1940 and 1945 by the factories of Erma, Haenel and Steyr. Used by Germany, the MP40 was the equipment of paratroopers and platoon and squad leaders, meanwhile the troops also used the Kar 98k. The gun was powerful, but technical problems ensured that the Germans would rather have used the Russian PPSh submachine gun than the MP40. There were never enough MP40's to go around, because raw material and labor costs made it expensive to produce alongside the Kar98 rifles. Starting in 1943, the German army moved to replace both the Kar98k rifle and MP40 with the new MP43/44 assault rifle, later known as the StG 44.
Many countries involved in World War II developed submachine guns which had a similar features to the MP 40 (with a folding stock, the magazine as a front handgrip, and cheap production techniques). The most famous examples are the Soviet PPSh-41 and the American Grease gun. Most derivative designs also copied the troublesome magazine design as well. After the war, many countries made their own machinepistols based on the MP40. Such like the Belgian Vigneron submachine gun.
Officially, three MP40 designs were designed:
- MP40/I — Main production version.
- MP40/II — Experimental version with two side by side 32-round magazines. The MP40/II was tested in 1942. This version of the MP40 had a two-magazine receiver that slides horizontally to use the additional magazine when the first becomes depleted. It was intended to counter the superior firepower of the Soviet PPSh-41, but it made the weapon heavy and unbalanced in the field, and did not work well. However, by 1943 the Soviets had shifted the production of PPSh-41 drums to 35 round stick magazines due to combat malfunctions.
- MP41 — A variant designed by Louis Schmeisser for the Haenel Company, which featured the receiver, operating mechanism, and magazine housing of the MP40 and a stock, trigger and fire selector similar to the MP28.

During the war, the MP40 was rarely equipped with a silencer. This reduces the sound and makes sure this machinepistol is a silent and deadly weapon. In FHSW, you can find it on very few maps. When you have this weapon, via a pick-up kit, you can kill people without making any noise. The people will show up in the chat as "killed by" (the name of a silenced weapon never appears in the chat).
