The 15.5 cm/60 3rd Year Type was a Japanese naval gun. It was used first on the ships of the Mogami class. But after be removed in the 1930's, they are be used on the Yamato Class as secondary gun (They were placed on both the front and the back side, behind and above the two 40 cm/45 Type 94 naval gun turrets). Later, they also used as coastal protection. They can be used as Anti-ship weaponry and as Anti-Aircraft. However, the slow rate of fire (5 rounds per minute each gun) make the gun unsuitable for the AA role. The turret construction was of the monobloc type with autofretting and used a Welin breech-block mechanism which could be operated either hydraulically or by hand. A total of approximately 80 guns were manufactured at Kure. The guns are used as single or as triple mount as coastel ship. But as ship gun, only used in triple mount.
