The production of the Turán II was ordered in 1941. It had a short 75 mm MÁVAG gun and the frontal armor was upgraded from 50 mm to 60 mm. The turret was made slightly larger as the gun took up more space. It was classified as an heavy tank at first since it had a 75 mm gun and Hungary had no heavier tanks at the time but in comparison to other tanks it would be a medium tank. The first three Turán II's were delivered to the troops on May 13-15 1943. During the war about 350 TuránI I's and II's were produced. The Turán became the main battle tank of Hungary, but they proved to be inadequate opponents of the Soviet tanks.
